Who are we?
GRASS is a new grassroots organization dedicated to the idea of bringing a multipurpose music and sport stadium to the City of Austin. The group was founded by a group of soccer and music fans who believe that Austin needs a centrally located place to enjoy outdoor concerts and sports.

Why?
Because currently the options for enjoying an outdoor concert or sporting event in Austin are limited. In fact for a city of its size that considers itself the Live Music capital they are poor. Stadium facilities are controlled either by Austin Independent School District (AISD) or the University of Texas (UT). AISD does not allow sales of alcohol on school grounds, which discounts its facilities as an option for most music promoters and generally means smaller crowds for sporting events. With a few exceptions UT generally does not allow its stadiums to be used by outside groups.

What would the capacity of a new stadium be?
We believe that to attract concerts and sporting events there is a need for a stadium with a seating capacity of 11,000 to 15,000. This is roughly the same capacity as the larger shared school district stadiums in the area (Dragon Stadium, Nelson Field) but the footprint would be smaller as the seats would wrap all the way around the playing field.

When would this happen?
Unknown. There are many hurdles that will need to be overcome. Planning, neighborhood concerns, funding, access.

Natural Grass or Synthetic Turf?
Despite recent improvements in synthetic turf surfaces our vote is always going to be natural grass.
